Everyone is in a rush to get on the World Wide Web. There are over 600 million active websites worldwide so it is obviously the place to be along with countless numbers of your competitors.
As a small business owner, you need to have a web presence but don’t be in rush to get online. It is important to sit and think what exactly are you trying to communicate and what is the purpose of the site. Until that is nailed down, any work that is done lacks focus and can be wasting your time and money.
So … if you are thinking of a website refresh or the creation of a new website, pull out a file folder and start collecting ideas, messages, addresses (urls) of websites and images – anything that you feel will appeal to your customer. Don’t try to flesh it all out at once but let it percolate. Talk to your customers, your employees, friends and family and get their input. Then ask yourself what is the number one purpose for your web presence? Start with the basics and you cannot go wrong.
